The OITI was founded in 2010 as a joint initiative of three Ibero-American institutions: Carlos III University of Madrid, the Brazilian Institute of Tax Law, and the Externado University of Colombia. Since then, other universities have joined its activities: the University of Florida, the University of São Paulo, the Federal University of Paraná, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the University of the Andes (Chile), the Public University of Navarre, the University of Liechtenstein, the University of Lima, the Autonomous University of Madrid, and the University of Guadalajara, among others.
